They executed a clean time trial, with everyone sticking to the plan. Towards the end, Ryan and Mick gave it everything they had along the river, setting up the others for a strong finish into the town. Paris-Nice is shaping up to be one of the most challenging stage races on the 2025 calendar. Across eight days of racing, the challenging parcours and an elite start list will make for a demanding battle, often used by Grand Tour hopefuls to test their form and tune up for the season. The 83rd Race to the Sun features a route designed to challenge every type of rider. Starting in the Yvelines on the south-west edge of Paris, the race will traverse 1,206 kilometres, with three stages for the fast men, three summit finishes, and a pivotal team time trial.&nbsp; &nbsp; Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe heads into the race with a strong lineup, aiming for top results in both the GC and sprints, with Florian Lipowitz and Aleksandr Vlasov leading the charge for the overall and Danny van Poppel the team’s key card to play in the fast finishes. &nbsp;&nbsp;<figure class="image image-style-align-center image_resized" style="width:75%;"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/Whats_App_Image_2025_03_05_at_15_29_23_2e5e76bed9.jpeg"></figure> The race opens with two relatively flat stages to suit the sprinters, provided crosswinds don’t shake things up, especially on the exposed Beauce plains of Stage 2. “These stages will help the team and riders get into the rhythm," explains Sports Director Patxi Vila.&nbsp; &nbsp; Following from that, the GC battle is set to heat up on Stage 3, featuring a rolling 28.4km team time trial to Nevers. A key feature of the stage is the Côte de la Pisserotte towards the finish, where riders will need to carefully manage their effort. Teams will likely look to the strategic use of riders on the approach to the finish, the climb itself and the downhill run-in to the line. “Strong teamwork will be key to positioning Aleksandr and Florian well for the GC battle,” continues Vila. “Although there is still significant climbing to come on the following days, this stage could have a central role to play in the GC battle.” &nbsp; Midweek, the race reaches its first summit finish on Stage 4 at La Loge des Gardes, a 7km climb averaging 6.5 per cent. "It’s quite a long climb, and the first proper climbing test for the general classification test," says Vila. “With over 3000m of elevation, it promises a selective stage finish.”&nbsp; &nbsp; He likens the following day’s finish to an Ardennes classics finale. “Stage five presents a different challenge with a short, steep finish, more reminiscent of the Ardennes than a traditional mountain stage. The last two kilometres feature a very steep kicker, which will change the type of winner compared to Stage four." With seven short punchy categorised climbs, and a final climb which ramps up to 18 percent in its steepest section, a selection could also be made here.&nbsp; &nbsp; Following two intense GC days, Stage 6 should bring the sprinters back into contention. "It’ll be a long stage finishing most likely with a sprint,” according to Vila. “If the wind stays calm, a bunch finish is likely, and van Poppel will be ready to contest it.” &nbsp; As the race progresses into the final weekend, the Alpes-Maritimes mountains set the stage for the resumption of the GC battle, with the final two stages featuring steep climbs and no doubt also fierce competition. "Both of these stages around Nice will be for the GC guys, likely one-on-one fights between the contenders," explains Vila. The penultimate stage serves up 3,700m of elevation, finishing at the ski resort village of Auron. Last year’s penultimate stage was set to finish there, but snowfall forced the rerouting of the course to the Madone d’Utelle, where Aleksandr Vlasov soloed to victory.&nbsp; &nbsp; The race will then reach its conclusion with an almost 120km loop around Nice, culminating with the classic finale used in recent years - the Col des Quatre Chemins - a tough 3.6km long climb averaging almost 9 percent, with sections kicking up to 16 percent.&nbsp; &nbsp; With this demanding parcours in mind, Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe is hoping for a strong GC showing with Florian Lipowitz and Aleksandr Vlasov. This will be Lipowitz’ first major race of the season, while Vlasov takes to the start after competing at the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana. "Both riders are heading to the race with ambition and a focus on achieving a good result overall. With riders like Vingegaard, Skjelmose, and Almeida, among others, in the field, however, the competition will be fierce,” Vila acknowledges. “Nevertheless, we’re up for the challenge of taking out a strong GC result and, hopefully, also a strong showing Danny van Poppel. So the goal will be a top-five finish in the GC and a stage victory. We’ll fight to be the protagonists of the race. Der Anstieg ist 7 km lang und weist eine durchschnittliche Steigung von 6,5 % auf. „Es ist ein ziemlich langer Anstieg und der erste richtige Härtetest für das Gesamtklassement", sagt Vila. „Mit über 3.000 Höhenmetern wird es ein selektives Finale." Die Zielankunft der folgenden Etappe erinnert laut Vila an ein Ardennen-Klassiker-Finale. „Etappe 5 stellt eine andere Herausforderung dar, mit einem kurzen, steilen Schlussanstieg, der eher an die Ardennen als an eine klassische Bergetappe erinnert. Mit sieben kurzen, aber steilen kategorisierten Anstiegen und einem Schlussanstieg, der in seiner steilsten Passage bis zu 18 % erreicht, könnte hier bereits eine Vorentscheidung fallen.&nbsp;Nach zwei intensiven Tagen für das Gesamtklassement dürften auf Etappe 6 wieder die Sprinter zum Zuge kommen.„Es wird eine lange Etappe, die wahrscheinlich in einem Massensprint enden wird", erklärt Vila. „Wenn der Wind ruhig bleibt, wird es voraussichtlich eine Sprintankunft geben, und Danny van Poppel wird bereit sein, um den Sieg zu kämpfen."&nbsp;Am letzten Wochenende geht es in die Berge der Alpes-Maritimes, wo sich die Entscheidung im Gesamtklassement zuspitzen wird. „Diese beiden Etappen rund um Nizza werden den Gesamtklassement-Fahrern gehören, und es wird eine Mann gegen Mann Situation unter den Favoriten geben," erklärt Vila. Die vorletzte Etappe weist 3.700 Höhenmeter auf und endet im Skiort Auron. Im vergangenen Jahr war dieses Finale ebenfalls geplant, musste jedoch wegen Schneefalls verlegt werden. The Opening Weekend marks the official start of the Classics season, and for Dutch rider Tim van Dijke, it was also his first race in the Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe jersey. After strong performances in both Omloop Nieuwsblad and Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne, he shared his insights on his weekend, the team’s progress, and his ambitions for the upcoming races.<h3>Tim, you just completed your first Opening Weekend with the team, including a 15th place at Omloop Nieuwsblad. How do you reflect on your performance over the whole weekend?</h3>Tim van Dijke: I finished 15th in the end, but I can be very happy with my shape and the way I raced. But that’s racing—you can’t always control how it unfolds. Coming back from altitude for my first race, it was a good performance. Now, we build on that.<h3>Racing with a new team always comes with challenges. How was your first experience with Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe in these races?</h3>Tim van Dijke: You have to get used to each other—communication, riding together. There are still things to improve, but I really enjoyed being back racing. I’m happy with how I felt out there.<h3>Where did you feel strongest during the races?</h3>Tim van Dijke: At Omloop Nieuwsblad, I think I was always up there with the best five or ten riders on every climb or sector. For me, that’s a positive—I could have also done 260 kilometers today. At this level, this is a good sign.<h3>The final moments of Omloop were hectic. Can you walk us through what happened?</h3>Tim van Dijke: It could have been a top-ten result, but when you’re boxed in with 200 meters to go, you lose speed and it's over. That’s disappointing, but such situations are also part of racing.<figure class="image"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/250303_timvandijke2_b50963ae57.jpg"></figure><h3>Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne followed the next day. How did the team approach that race?</h3>Tim van Dijke: As a team, we had some nice learning points from Omloop that we could take into Kuurne, and I think we did really well. We were there more as a unit, always up front controlling, and we wanted to go for the sprint with Jordi. In the end, we lost each other a bit in the last three kilometers, and that was really disappointing. We couldn’t position Jordi in a way that allowed him to sprint for victory.This is something that takes time—to get used to each other, to work with each other. But the positive thing is that we have really strong legs. It’s just a matter of time before we get a really nice result.<h3>What do you take away from Opening Weekend for the rest of the Classics?</h3>Tim van Dijke: I take the positives from the races, but I also need to learn from it and do better next time because I know I can. The way I rode the cobbled climbs and the climbs gives me confidence for the next races. I want to perform in all the Classics, but I also want to help the team win.<h3>Looking ahead, what’s next for you?</h3>Tim van Dijke: I will race Strade Bianche and Tirreno-Adriatico. Für den niederländischen Fahrer Tim van Dijke war die diesjährige Auflage zugleich das erste Rennen im Trikot von Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe. Nach starken Leistungen bei Omloop Het Nieuwsblad und Kuurne-Brüssel-Kuurne teilte er seine Eindrücke zum Wochenende, zur Entwicklung des Teams und zu seinen Zielen für die kommenden Rennen.Tim, du hast dein erstes Opening Weekend mit dem Team absolviert und beim Omloop Het Nieuwsblad Platz 15 erreicht. Wie blickst du auf dein Rennwochenende zurück?Tim van Dijke: Am Ende wurde es Platz 15, aber ich bin sehr zufrieden mit meiner Form und meiner Fahrweise. Aber so ist der Radsport – man kann nicht alles kontrollieren. Es war mein erstes Rennen nach dem Höhentrainingslager, und dafür lief es wirklich gut. Jetzt bauen wir darauf auf.Ein neues Team bedeutet immer eine gewisse Eingewöhnung. Wie war deine erste Erfahrung mit Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe in diesen Rennen?Tim van Dijke: Man muss sich aneinander gewöhnen – etwa im Hinblick auf die Kommunikation oder das Zusammenspiel auf dem Rad. Es gibt noch Dinge, die wir verbessern können, aber es hat großen Spaß gemacht, wieder im Rennmodus zu sein. Wir waren als Team stärker präsent, haben das Rennen mehr kontrolliert und wollten für Jordi den Sprint vorbereiten. Leider haben wir uns in den letzten drei Kilometern etwas verloren, was enttäuschend war. Dadurch konnten wir ihn nicht optimal positionieren, um um den Sieg zu sprinten.Solche Dinge brauchen Zeit – man muss sich erst aneinander gewöhnen und als Team einspielen. Aber die Beine sind stark, und es ist nur eine Frage der Zeit, bis wir ein richtig gutes Ergebnis holen.Was nimmst du aus dem Opening Weekend für die weiteren Klassiker mit?Tim van Dijke: Ich nehme viel Positives mit, aber ich weiß auch, dass ich noch besser werden kann. Die Art und Weise, wie ich die Kopfsteinpflaster-Anstiege gefahren bin, gibt mir Zuversicht für die nächsten Rennen. Ich will in allen Klassikern stark fahren, aber auch dem Team helfen, Siege einzufahren.Was steht als Nächstes für dich an?Tim van Dijke: Ich werde Strade Bianche und Tirreno-Adriatico fahren. But on Wednesday, at the UMAG Classic in Croatia, the U23 team will take to the start line for the first time as an independent squad—bringing high ambitions to the Adriatic coast.“The excitement is overwhelming—I can’t even describe it in words. Even though the Rookies have already put in some race miles, this is where our real journey begins,” says Grega Gazvoda, Head of Rookie Programs at Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe. While all the Rookies have already competed in races this season, their time with the WorldTeam was primarily focused on learning. Now, at the UMAG Classic, they are looking to make their mark.The team will be represented by Adrien Boichies (France), Theodor August Clemmensen (Denmark), Davide Donati (Italy), Paul Fietzke (Germany), Romet Pajur (Estonia), and Callum Thornley (Great Britain). Among their competitors will be two ProTeams from Italy: Team Solution Tech - Vini Fantini and VF Group - Bardiani CSF - Faizanè. “We’ve all trained hard and put in a lot of work, so expectations are high. The hunt for the first podium in Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe Rookies history starts on Wednesday,” says a determined Gazvoda.The 142-kilometer UMAG Classic is just the beginning of their Croatian campaign. On Sunday, March 9, the team will take on another one-day race, the POREC Classic. In den vergangenen Wochen durften die Fahrer der Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe Rookies bereits im Rahmen verschiedener Renneinsätze mit dem WorldTeam Rennluft schnuppern. Im Rahmen des am Mittwoch ausgetragenen UMAG Classic in Kroatien bestreitet das U23-Team nun das erste Rennen als eigene Mannschaft. Dabei reist man mit großen Ambitionen an die Adriaküste.„Die Freude ist so riesig, dass ich es nicht mit meinen Worten beschreiben kann. Obwohl die Rookies schon ein paar Rennkilometer gesammelt haben, geht’s erst jetzt richtig los für uns“, sagt Grega Gazvoda, Head of Rookie Programs bei Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe. The Opening Weekend was the first major test for the newly formed Classics squad of Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe. Four of the seven riders who lined up at the start had only joined the team a few weeks ago – and together, this lineup raced side by side for the very first time. While the big result was still missing, the team gained valuable insights and plenty of confidence heading into the upcoming Classics.<figure class="image image_resized image-style-align-center" style="width:50%;"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/MF_250301_Omloop_Het_Nieuwsblad_255576_36cc20cd3a.jpg"></figure>“We showed a much stronger performance than in previous years. It was clear that the team has the right level. Throughout the races, we were often in good positions, played an active role, and were present in the key attacks during the final,” summarizes CEO Ralph Denk, who was on-site supporting the team.&nbsp;On Saturday, Tim van Dijke finished 15th at Omloop Nieuwsblad in his debut race for the team. On Sunday, Jordi Meeus sprinted to 12th place at Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne.<figure class="image image_resized image-style-align-center" style="width:50%;"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/MF_250302_Kuurne_Brussel_Kuurne_255744_5d4c83af45.jpg"></figure>“In terms of performance, it was very promising, and that gives us confidence,” says Ralph Denk. “But in the end, results are what count – and we didn’t quite get them this weekend. Now it’s about executing our potential in the final. I’m convinced that in the upcoming one-day races in Belgium, we will see the rewards of our efforts.”&nbsp;Before the Belgian cobbled races continue on March 26 with Classic Brugge-De Panne, the team will head to the Italian and French spring races – the perfect fine-tuning for the big Classics still to come.

Beim Omloop Nieuwsblad am Samstag fuhr Tim van Dijke in seinem ersten Rennen für das Team auf Platz 15. Jetzt geht es darum, unser Potenzial auch im Finale auszuspielen. Ich bin überzeugt, dass wir bei den nächsten Eintagesrennen in Belgien die Früchte unserer Arbeit ernten werden.“ Bevor es am 26. März mit dem Classic Brugge-De Panne weitergeht, stehen für die Fahrer nun die italienischen und französischen Frühjahrsrennen auf dem Programm – der Feinschliff für die großen Klassiker, die noch kommen.

Day 1 of the opening weekend - and Belgium once again showed why it is the home of the spring classics. The euphoria of the fans, the raw fascination of the cobbles, the excitement in the air - all of this will carry us through the next six weeks. The 80th anniversary edition of Omloop Nieuwsblad was more than just a race. It was the start of the classics campaign, the moment when the season really gets going for the one-day specialists. But this time it was different: no snow, no rain, no whipping winds. Instead, sunshine, spring-like temperatures and perfect conditions for a spectacle on the legendary roads of Flanders.<figure class="image image-style-align-center image_resized" style="width:50%;"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/MF_250301_Omloop_Het_Nieuwsblad_255719_372d3e67e0.jpg"></figure>The weather left its mark on the race. "The start was surprisingly calm - not the usual chaos we often experience here," recalls last year's winner Jan Tratnik. But if you thought it would stay that way, you were wrong. &nbsp;With the combination of Molenberg and Leberg, the typical chaos of the classics broke out. The peloton broke up and the pace exploded. "From then on it was Belgium as we know it. Every climb was full gas - and I was able to keep up without any problems," said Jan.<figure class="image image_resized image-style-align-center" style="width:50%;"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/MF_250301_Omloop_Het_Nieuwsblad_259778_13b3ba6f8d.jpg"></figure>He was joined by Tim van Dijke, Mick van Dijke and Roger Adrià in the two groups that would decide the race. But for Tratnik the day came to a bitter end on the famous Muur van Geraardsbergen. A mechanical caused him to fall back at the crucial moment. "Unfortunately I couldn't test myself in the end," he said disappointedly.<figure class="image image_resized image-style-align-center" style="width:50%;"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/MF_250301_Omloop_Het_Nieuwsblad_255594_1196355ba3.jpg"></figure>But he still has good memories: "Even though I was not able to perform in the end, it was an incredible feeling to start with number 1". &nbsp;Tim van Dijke finished in 15th place as the best Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe rider. "I ended up in 15th place, but I don't think that really reflects the race I rode. But yeah, that's cycling - you can't always control how the race goes. It was a good performance for my first race. We can build on that now," said the rookie.

Tag 1 des Opening Weekends – und Belgien zeigte einmal mehr, warum es die Heimat der Frühjahrsklassiker ist. Jubiläumsausgabe des Omloop Nieuwsblad war mehr als nur ein Rennen. Sie war der Startschuss für die Klassikerkampagne, der Moment, in dem die Saison für die Eintages-Spezialisten so richtig Fahrt aufnimmt. Doch diesmal lief es anders als so oft zuvor: Kein Schnee, kein Regen, kein peitschender Wind. Stattdessen Sonne, frühlingshafte Temperaturen und perfekte Bedingungen für ein Spektakel auf den legendären Straßen Flanderns.<figure class="image image-style-align-center image_resized" style="width:50%;"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/MF_250301_Omloop_Het_Nieuwsblad_255719_372d3e67e0.jpg"></figure>Das Wetter hinterließ seine Spuren im Rennverlauf. „Der Start war erstaunlich ruhig – nicht das übliche Chaos, das wir hier oft erleben“, erinnerte sich Vorjahressieger Jan Tratnik. Doch wer dachte, es bliebe entspannt, wurde eines Besseren belehrt. &nbsp;Spätestens mit der Kombination aus Molenberg und Leberg brach im Finale das typische Klassiker-Chaos aus. Das Peloton zerfiel, das Tempo explodierte. „Ab da war es wieder Belgien, wie wir es kennen. Jeder Anstieg wurde mit Vollgas gefahren – und ich konnte problemlos mithalten“, so Jan.<figure class="image image-style-align-center image_resized" style="width:50%;"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/MF_250301_Omloop_Het_Nieuwsblad_259778_13b3ba6f8d.jpg"></figure>Mit ihm waren Tim van Dijke, Mick van Dijke und Roger Adrià in den beiden Gruppen vertreten, die das Rennen entscheiden sollten. Doch für Tratnik nahm der Tag an der berühmten Muur von Geraardsbergen ein bitteres Ende. Ein Defekt ließ ihn genau im entscheidenden Moment zurückfallen. „Leider konnte ich mich am Ende nicht mehr selbst testen“, sagte er enttäuscht.<figure class="image image_resized" style="width:50%;"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/MF_250301_Omloop_Het_Nieuwsblad_255594_1196355ba3.jpg"></figure>Und doch bleibt etwas Besonderes: „Auch wenn ich am Schluss nicht mehr eingreifen konnte – es war ein unglaubliches Gefühl, mit der Nummer 1 zu starten.“ &nbsp;Tim van Dijke erreichte als bester Fahrer von Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe auf Rang 15 das Ziel. "Am Ende wurde ich 15., aber meiner Meinung nach spiegelt das nicht wirklich das Rennen wider, das ich gefahren bin. Aber ja, so ist der Radsport – man kann nicht immer kontrollieren, wie das Rennen ausgeht. Für mein erstes Rennen war es eine gute Leistung. Darauf bauen wir jetzt auf", sagte der Neuzugang.

Last Sunday, Jan Tratnik celebrated his 35th birthday - a good reason to take a closer look at the new member to Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe. The second reason? The upcoming Opening Weekend with the Omloop Nieuwsblad, which Tratnik surprisingly won last year.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.redbullborahansgrohe.com/news/Jan-Tratnik-Portrait2_EN" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">In the first part</a>, we traced Jan's unusual path into professional cycling. 24th February in 2024 was just as unpredictable, as it was only the second time in his career that he had competed in the Omloop. He actually seemed destined for the role of helper in the strong Visma team. But cycling is unpredictable.&nbsp;“After 100 kilometers, I thought the race was over”, recalls Jan. The second of eleven cobbled sections had not even been completed, the hilly part of the race was still to come. "Strong crosswinds had torn the field apart. All the favorites were at the front, Visma was represented by five men. I wasn't there. Basically, everything was done."&nbsp;But that's how it is with the cobbled classics: nothing is decided until the finish line is crossed. "I was in the second group and just kept fighting to always get over the hills with the first riders. And then we actually closed the gap to the break again."&nbsp;That was just before the famous Muur van Geraardsbergen, the penultimate climb.&nbsp;The decisive momentIn the final 20 kilometers, the peloton splitted again. Attacks followed one after the other, but even after the final Bosberg there was no preliminary decision. Until Jan took heart.&nbsp;"I went eight kilometers before the finish. I turned around - and the group was standing still. That was the moment when I realized: this can work." With Nils Politt as his only companion, he flew towards the finish in Ninove.&nbsp;And Jan kept the upper hand in the sprint. "When I crossed the finish line, it was one of the best moments of my career. Friends from Slovenia were there, celebrating me - an incredible feeling."&nbsp;Returning with Bib 1But it's not just the memories of that day that remain, but also a valuable lesson: "You must never give up in Belgium. There are 100 ways a race can turn around - even if you're a long way behind."&nbsp;A year later, Jan returns to this special place - with race number 1 on his back. "This will be one of the greatest moments of my career. The Omloop is a prestigious race, the history, the cobbles, the atmosphere. Belgium is a cycling nation. I get goosebumps when I think about it."&nbsp;"And since my victory, Omloop Nieuwsbald naturally has a very special place in my heart."
